Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

It was pretty amazing to wake up this morning to a fairly heavy snow. This area doesn't generally get much of the white stuff.

That is terrible. We haven't had 5 inches of snow here in the past two centuries.

lol, OK. That would be hard to imagine where you live. Have you seen it snow there?

We had already arranged to drive over the mountain pass east of here this morning to visit friends. We still managed it, but it was slow going for quite a while. I have to admit, it is beautiful to look at.

Here in Phoenix there has been one snowfall since I have lived here. But I was out of town and missed. It was like a heavy frost, 1/8 inch of snow and was gone by noon. That was the first one since 1987. The average is once in 15 years, and about like the one last year.

That must have been something. I'm a bit surprised that it ever gets cold enough for any snow there, and it managed to stick, sort of.

We're realizing we are less than prepared for snow--no snow shovels, etc. We do have boots, our car has good tires, we have ice scrapers, etc. But ... it just doesn't snow much here.

Our normal winter low is mid 40s. We at times get mid 30s late at night, under freezing maybe once in 3 years. With little rain that makes snow very rare.
I would not want to live in a very snowy place.

Yes, not much rain, plus temps seldom down to freezing, would make snow something very rare.

I have lived in snowy places, and found that it isn't all that bad. The streets get plowed regularly (of course, then you have to shovel the berm, as well as your own driveway and walkways), and people learn how to drive in it, etc. Here in western Oregon, snow is unusual, so there don't seem to be many snowplows, and many people really aren't sure how to drive in the stuff. It's especially challenging when it is slushy on the streets.

I think I'll just hang out at home today, if possible. ;-)
