It is never easy. We’ve known it was coming for some time now, as Ranger was getting more and more frail and weak, and visible tumors were growing. Still, he kept on going for quite a while. Until about a week ago when he more or less stopped eating, and only drank a little water here and there. With coaxing he would sometimes eat a little, but it became obvious that his body was in the process of shutting down. Poor old dog. The best we could do was to keep him as comfortable as possible. He lived to a ripe old age of 15 years.
We reminisced a bit about funny memories, annoying traits, and so on. He had a couple of nicknames, such as “Mr. Muddy Paws” and “In-the-way Doggie.” He was beloved by the kids as they were growing up, and will certainly be missed. He was a good alarm and watch dog. We believe that he kept vandals out of our house at times and we felt a little safer with him on duty. Now he is gone.
He was a good dog.
